What is PRP Therapy?

Skilled physician Dr. Daniel Skinner is proud to offer platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy at BioWell Therapeutics to help rejuvenate your facial appearance. PRP therapy is one of the most popular and innovative cosmetic procedures in the aesthetic industry due to its natural method and promising results. This procedure uses your own plasma to stimulate the skin, reducing the prevalence of fine lines. PRP therapy can also be performed in conjunction with microneedling. If you are interested in PRP therapy, contact BioWell Therapeutics in Huntsville, AL to schedule a consultation. Dr. Skinner will be happy to discuss all the benefits of PRP and what it can do for your skin.

Our Platelet-Rich Plasma Technique

Once you are seated comfortably in one of our private minor procedure areas, a small amount of blood will be taken from one of your arms and placed in a centrifuge machine. Most of the time, we remove about four tablespoons or one vial's worth of blood. After about 15 minutes, the different components of the blood will be separated and prepared for injection. We will load the concentrated plasma into a sterile syringe and inject it into the designated areas of the face. The procedure usually only takes about five minutes, but this will vary in each patient.

PRP Therapy FAQ

How long do results from PRP therapy last?
PRP therapy has been known to last for up to eight weeks. The longevity of the results will vary with each patient and depends on the area being treated. Some of the advantages of PRP therapy are that it doesn't require incisions or significant downtime and is easier to afford.

Will PRP help replenish volume?
PRP therapy cannot restore volume in areas like your lips and cheeks. While PRP injections offer great results because it rejuvenates skin and boosts the production of collagen and elastin, PRP treatments do not increase volume. If you want to contour certain areas of the face, you may be a better candidate for dermal fillers.

Is PRP therapy painful?
PRP injections feel similar to a dermal filler or BOTOX® injection but with the additional step of extracting the plasma. Usually, most patients feel a little pinch or pressure at the time of injection. If you are worried about feeling pain, ask if you can receive local anesthesia before the injection is performed.
